Just 50. But I would swear I already did this manually, and that
AutoShare recreated them. Maybe this happened after I had to reinstall
AutoShare and trash the outgoing mail file, and before I re-set all the
preferences.

You can always create a Header document in the documents folder.

From the documentation:
Token
The Token process extender is triggered by the /=pe token in response
documents. The format of the token is /=pe <parameter>, and the parameter=
is a unique
word which is passed to the process extender's parameter list as kOptions
(16), so that proper action can be taken depending on when and where the
call is made.
As the response document is available, the process extender's parameter
list gets filled in with the parameter numbers of 1-8 and 11-13. kList
(9) is passed for list
server requests, but not for standard auto-responses. List server
requests furthermore passes the list server command as kName (15) and its
2nd parameter (list name
is 1st parameter) as kEmail (14).
A returned reply, one line per item in an AppleScript list, is written to
the message file handed over to the mail server. As an AppleScript
returns the last evaluated
object when nothing explicit is returned, it is in such a case
recommended to return an empty AppleScript list object, being {}.
See the Change Command process extender sample, which supports the Change
list server command for changing the subscriber's e-mail address. In
other words, the
list server request command line <command> <list> <e-mail>, e.g. change
fun-l a@b, translates into <kName> <kList> <kEmail> with the sender being
kSender (3).

As AutoShare hands over only one "generic" message file to the mail
server, no subscriber name can be associated with that message. To have
names put into individual mails for one given list contribution, you would
need to send out as many mails as the list has subscribers, and that is
likely to slow down the process signficantly.

No, it is still

I'd like to supress or alter the To: header in outgoing announcement
list. Is this possible? My goal is to conceal the real e-mail address
of the listserver. I know that I can block subscribers from posting
to the list but my client is looking for an added bit of security.

So why isn't it working? It's returning an error message that

Howdy Michael,
I realized the slowdown of sending individual Mails instead of the generic msg file. But there are times were this still would be very usefull - maybe only for small lists - but I would like to have this option anyhow.
So is a Process Extender using a token like "/=pe name" the way I have to go now?

I explained the reason in my post. If thanks for your
non-contribution.... Have you never seen a message from a list server
that said:
To: Company Announce <undisclosed-reciepients at domain dot com> ?
LetterRip and ListSTAR and probably some others allow for a secret
address for announcements and moderators so that only trusted people
can post to those addresses, however the ListServer replaces the To:
header with the real address of the list.
Have I explained this sufficiently for your suspicious mind?

Can I have a list admin send an announcement mail to a non-published

that the private address never appears in the outgoing message but
rather the public address appears in the outgoing message? (Yuou
know.. the same as other listservers?)

Legitimate try as a response.
If you use the Work Lists feature (List window in AS Admin), you can have
AS send a mail apparently to fakelist at domain dot com, while the real SIMS/EIMS
accounts files are named truelist.d and truelist.m. This way, you can block
spamers from etrn the account files. If your list is private or
announcement only, you're done.

Perhaps the preferences got messed up. Have you checked to see if the
remote admin password for the list is still present and correct? And that
your caps lock is not on? (That happened to me this morning).

AutoShare doesn't offer this as a built-in feature, but an After
Processing process extender can easily modify the RFC To field body.
All the mail server cares about is the SMTP envelope recipient
address.
I do however view mail-backs as a more efficient way of security.

No, "/=pe name" is targeted for list server requests, not list contributions.
If you do need to "personalize" your list contributions, it can
probably be done using an After Processing process extender, written
by some smart individual. For each subscriber, make a copy of the
message file and update the SMTP envelope recipient to that
subscriber. At the same time, make the needed changes to the message
body. Be sure to delete the "standard" message file at the end of
your script.

I am a new autoshare and I have been trying to get it up and running.
In following the tutorial I think I have everything set correctly,
but the messages get stuck in the incoming mail folder in the system
folder when I run the test suggested in the tutorial. Any ideas on
what I may be doing wrong?

It looks like EIMS is not picking up the message files. Are you
running the commercial version by any chance? If so, the Incoming
Mail folder is inside the application folder, not the System Folder.

Excellent use of AppleScript then.
>And I am not really sure what I should edit.
If your archives haven't yet rolled over after your configuration
change, then you can always create a test list, e.g. fun-l and then
simply run
tell application "AutoShare"
Roll Over List "fun-l"
end tell
to view the other name format of archive files. On my computer it
looks like this:
Normal format: Archive-28-Apr-2000.html
A in Misc Stuff: Archive-2000-04-28.html
It may look differently on your computer given the version and
configuration of your Mac OS.
In AppleScript, simply use "-" as a delimiter to change from one
format to the other for archives of the past.

I'm surprised at how often this topic pops up (which also means that
it has been explained that many times in the past). The "Archive-"
files are the rolled-over archive files, while the "Current-" files
are, well, the current archives files. That's one thing. The other
thing is that the automated web archives in a separate folder
hierarchy are based on the .html/.toc files in the standard archives
folder hierarchy.
Given this and the above two format samples, you now know which files
to rename and how to edit the file names.

That makes sense. If AutoShare sees that some web archive files are
missing based on which standard archive files are present, they get
(re-)created. That is a feature :-)

Subject: Dual confirmation emails
From: "Jon L. Gardner" <jon at food.tamu dot edu>
I'm using AutoShare 4.1.1. I have the "mailback" field in my general list
options set to "SU". Whenever I sub/unsub to a list, I receive a
confirmation email with the keyword. When I send the reply containing the
keyword, I receive a second identical confirmation email requesting the same
keyword again. After sending a second, identical reply, my original request
is finally processed and I recieve a final confirmation email.
I set the "mailback" field to "N" for one of the lists so that it ignores
the general setting, and it works properly (doesn't send mailback
confirmations at all).
Any ideas as to what's going on here?

Are you sure that the two replies are identical? The first message
may have been sent using styled text or with a message body that is
slightly different. A good way to be certain is to compare the raw
message bodies of two reply message files in the Filed Mail folder.
In the Admin, Command-K, specify a path to a Save Filed Mail folder,
so that you can easily compare the files in that folder once you have
completed an experiment of replying twice.

There's only one reply message file that gets put into the Save Filed Mail
folder. In the test I just ran:
1. I sent a "subscribe <listname>" command to the listserver.
2. The server sent me a confirmation request with the keyword "F.10901" and
wrote a file named "F.10901-1" to the Save Filed Mail folder.
3. I replied with the keyword.
4. The server replied with a confirmation request *identical* to the first
(other than the fact that the second message was sent two minutes after the
first). No other file was written to the Save Filed Mail folder.
5. I replied again with the keyword (an identical message to my first
reply).
6. The server replied with a "you have been subscribed..." message.
The same procedure applies when unsubscribing. Give it a shot...subscribe to
the "Fun-L" list at <autoshare at lists.cbcbryan dot org>.

I have this vague feeling that someone just once before brought this
up a good while back and that it is somehow due to SIMS. I searched
in some of my archives, but didn't find anything, maybe the person
who mentioned it remembers. I think it was due to the busy state of
files, which is important when one application puts files in a folder
that is picked up by another application. If that's the case, you can
conduct an experiment with having only one application, either SIMS or
AutoShare, running at a time, alternately. You can also try using the
freeware EIMS during such an experiment. Or using another version of
SIMS.

This type of error message is multi-line, so it would helpful to see all of it.
You would generally receive this response because AutoShare is not
familiar with the domain of the SMTP envelope recipient, which most
likely is different from the domain in your configured main bounce
address. If you add the domain to the host file, all should be well.

Mikael,
This has been brought up at least twice before, once by me using EIMS.
Another user with the problem wrote three months age-I kept the last
message (it was unresolved). I have the identical experience to Jon.

It's in the current beta archive on the dnai server.

Thanks to Charles for zooming in on the message below.
I have conducted another test using EIMS and then SIMS. In either
environment did everything turn out as expected. I just cannot reproduce
the case of "the second confirmation".

Here's the script I ended up trying to use. Clearly I want to filter =

This similar script works for me.
property myDomain : "hopkins.k12.mn.us"
property myList : "fun-l"
on idle
return 300
end idle
on event AuBPaUBP (aList)
set kFolderPath to item 1 of aList

set kSender to item 3 of aList
set kRecipient to item 4 of aList
set myFilePath to kFolderPath & kFileName -- path of message file
if (kRecipient begins with (myList & "@")) and (kSender does not end
with ("@" & myDomain)) then
tell application "Finder"
delete (alias myFilePath)
end tell
end if
end event AuBPaUBP

-Added /=include token for list server requests
-Fixed long paths in /=include not being read in full
-Added Month and Script remote commands in log stats
-Added log list of addresses being bounced, hard and soft
-Added log list of addresses subscribed and unsubscribed
-Fixed "dual confirmation" bug when specifying the Mail
Back folder path directly in the mail server account
I'm going to take a chance and say that the dual confirmation issue
has been taken care of. My thanks to Jon and Charles.
And thanks to Randy for helping out tracking down an /=include bug.
Also thanks to HOnza who recently suggested that

It turned out to be quite simple once I had looked into it. When the
change of month takes place, AutoShare creates monthly help files for
the preference set that she happens to be processing at the time and
then notes that she has done so, happily ignorant that when the next
preference set comes around a moment later, a separate note is called
for because there is a different batch of monthly help files here.
This has been fixed and will appear in the next beta to be uploaded
well before May comes around. Drop me a mail if you would like to
test it even earlier.
is this fixed in b4 ?
TIA

I remember fixing it before I wrote you, so I would say yes. I don't
recall at this time what I did, but I should add a line to the beta notes.

Both these are available using setting in the more stuff field. Turn on
balloon help in AutoShare Admin.

I've looked everywhere w/balloon help in each list setting box and cannot
find the appropriate tags for #1 (the chronological archive naming option).
Can you be more specific? What code goes where?
I'm using Autoshare and Admin v4.1.1 if that changes anything...
cheers
