Subject: Moderate subscription ?
Hi all,
For a very specific list the listmaster (not me) would like that all
subscription requests be forwarded to him instead of being processed.
Is it possible w/o writing a specific process extender ?
Thanks in advance
Yours,
Cordialement,
SBE

Simply set the list to "PRIVATE"; subscription requests will be confirmed
as normal (if you do that, which you should), and then the applicant will
be told something along the lines of:
>Your subscription request has been received and processed.
>The results of the processing are shown below:
>
>your-list-name
>Request for subscription is pending listmaster approval
>Process time was 0.45 seconds
In the meantime, the listmaster gets an e-mail announcing the subscription
request, with the headers and subscription command line. They must then
manually subscribe the applicant.

Thanks, it was so simple! At first I misread the doc and believed
that private list subscribers didn't have the right to post into it.
Now I'm faced with a smaller glitch. The confirmation message sent to
the listmaster is boggus, in that it includes all the rfc headers of
the original subscription request, and among them "Content-Type...".
While retrieving mail, eudora chokes on a message with a double
content-type line. I can do with that but the other 'listmaster' is
likely to bother me every once in a while with that. As anybody else
seen/corrected this?

I just tested this, and I only get a single "Content-Type" entry. I'll
contact you off-list to discuss.

All you have to do is create a list-specific document in the AutoShare
Documents folder with the content you want. Just check out the
AutoShare Documentation.

Chuck, thank you for your input. I knew of list specific documents of
course, but probably skipped this very particular one. Seems I still
have to learn.
Mark, I tried your private suggestion, and also to let you know that
I did, but one smtp between you and me stated that mine,
smpt.wanadoo.fr, is blackholed. This is my home provider, the lab one
seems ok. If this was an emergency, I could ftp a rfc file into my
sims submitted folder but I don't think it is, so the test will wait
until next monday when I'm back at work.
(hope this one gets through :) )

Besides not being able to access the archives URL below, the
Autoshare Home Page URL is also no longer working. It seems the URL
should be updated to:
http://home.comcast.net/~autoshare/autoshare/
NOTE: Someone ought to update the Autoshare listing on
Versiontracker.com as well, because it also has the old links.

Subject: Qwest.net doesn't get mail

I have a mail list using SIMS and AutoShare from which Qwest.net
subscribers only receive about 10% of the messages. I have done a dig
on my DNS to make sure it sees Qwest.net, and it returns an appropriate
list of MXs. When I send mail directly to Qwest.net subscribers, I get
a Host Not Found error. All this really challenges my limited
understanding of the DNS system; well, it exhausts it, and then some.
I asked the subscribers with trouble to contact the Qwest.net tech
support. They said it was my problem. One of the subscribers send me a
header from one of the messages that made it through, and it had this
in it:
>
> X-NAV-TimeoutProtection0: X
> X-NAV-TimeoutProtection1: X
> X-NAV-TimeoutProtection2: X
> X-NAV-TimeoutProtection3: X
> X-NAV-TimeoutProtection4: X
> X-NAV-TimeoutProtection5: X
> X-NAV-TimeoutProtection6: X
I don't know if this is related.
To complicate matters, I have a PIX firewall, behind which is a
WebShield anti-virus device. Can some kind soul here help me find the
source of the problem by suggesting things to check?

To start, I would turn off your anti-virus software for a day. See if
that helps.
What are your firewall rules for SMTP (port 25)?

Subject: Filtering before Auto-responding?
Hi there,
Hi there,
Sorry for the cross-posting, I'm sure most of you lurk on the same
lists I'm posting to...
I have the current problem with EIMS, STF and AutoShare:
When spammers hit accounts that have auto-replies set up (such as
info at aladdinsys dot com), I believe the messages are responded to before
STF filters them. I then get all the bouncebacks from the outbound
responses to the spam.
Is this actually how EIMS/AutoShare/STF are working, or do I just
need better filter rules for STF? If this is how the system is
working, is there any way to have STF filter the messages before
AutoShare processes them?
Thanks!

I'd like to have a script that gets fired up whenever an archive is
updated. The script could then search for email addresses and
obfuscate them (for example, by changing an "@" to "-a-t-" or even an
image of an at sign).
Does anyone know how I would do this?
