Is NAV detecting the virus as the file is being written or on a periodic
sweep?
If it is while it is being written then I am not suprised that Worldmail has
the file locked ... it is still trying to write to it.
I doubt that Worldmail keeps hold of the file after it has finished writing
... because it woudl eventually run out of file handle resources.

From memory ...
There is a Worldmail API called something like IMSFAPI [Internet Mail Server
Filter API], which allows you to filter the inbound SMTP mail between it
being accepted over the SMTP protocol and it being routed/delivered.
I think that you get a call with a file name ... with the SMTP message in
the file.
You can then return an Accept/Deny

hello all,
I frequently find active OUTGOING SMTP connections (in the management
center->current connections->server) that have been active for many days.
In all cases, the number of bytes transmitted is relatively low, around 87
bytes. I have seen connections that have been up for days (44 days in one
case). I am not able to manually disconnect the session and I have to stop
and start the internet mail service to shake them free.
- more often than not I can trace the outgoing connection to different SMTP
servers in China ( we do business with a lot of Chinese vendors) so I
wonder if it is an encoding issue?
I see a setting to disconnect idle INCOMING connections, but nothing for
OUTGOING connections. Has anyone witnessed or solved this particular
problem ?

Hello you all,
We're a large architect firm that have numerous clients and consultants to
deal with on the daily basis. What is really annoying to our employees (and
through them to me as well), that we have several consultants that either...
- can not send emails to us or
- we can not send email to them or
- both.
By using a great DNS error report website http://www.dnsreport.com I can
always see, that the potential cause of the problem can be with their MX or
NS records.
BUT, what's really annoying is, that OK, our DNS config is fine and theirs
is wrong, so we are the good guys and they are the bad ones, but HOW COME,
that they CAN still send emails to and receive emails from such trivial
email accounts like Yahoo.com or Earthlink.net ???
How come that Yahoo or Earthlink email servers are OK to communicate to
these email server, but our Worldmail is not???
Does someone know, how to bypass this annoyance with Worldmail server and
let it know somehow, that yes, IT IS OK to communicate to these and these
email server even if their MX record ord NS record is not perfect.
How come that the email servers of yahoo and earthlink are more flexible
than Worldmail??
Can someone explain this to me?

Hi All
Can anyone help me? I'm trying to move my WorldMail from one server to
another and the new software has installed Ok but I can't get it to accept
our 100 users add-on option C that's listed in the original server license
manager.
I have checked and triple checked the activation key that's listed on the
old server, but all I get when I push the 'add key' button is an 'invalid
license number' popup.
Do I need to have a serial#/key pair to reinstall this license or am I doing
something wrong? If I need the pair how do I go about getting it re-issued
since I don't even know where this server was purchased (it was here before
I was) and there is no paperwork around for it anywhere that I can find.

Digging through an old garbage bin I found the original Volume licensing
certificate. The serial # on it was completely different to the original.
100 User licenses are now installed happily.
Now if only I could get the export and import utility working...

I have already responded to similar question in the past (in Sept of 2002),
so I just copy/pasted that info here for you.
(the original question back then was about how to backup and restore Eudora
Worldmail server.)
One more thing: In order to avoid disaster (with this method) you have to
be familiar with regedit.exe , importing/exporting registry trees and the
theory behind it.
You must use regedit.exe running locally on the email server, you can not
import/export registry tree with regedt32.exe and/or remotely.

I backup the whole folder of Worldmail (application)
I backup the whole folder of the mailboxes (I keep them separate from the
folders of Worldmail.)
Every time I modify any setting in Worldmail (including adding deleting
users) I save/export the key of ISOCOR in the registry to another computer.
(to a local file first of course.)
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ISOCOR) ...so that I always have the latest
backup of the key ISOCOR.
This way even if the whole server gets stolen,
- you can reinstall the Worldmail on another server (with the same Computer
Name),
- then stop all Worldmail related services on the server,
- restore the folders of Qualcomm and the mailboxes
and restore the key of ISOCOR in the registry.
- and restart the Worldmail services.
Max. 1/2 hour should be enough for this whole restore process, most likely
it would take longer time to create a server with an identical computer
name, then restoring the Worldmail itself.
WARNING: IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO MESS WITH THE REGISTRY, DON'T MESS WITH
IT. IT CAN MESS YOU UP BIG TIME!
P.s.: if you run any virus protection on your email server like WebShield
from McAffee, you will have to deal with it too on the restored email
server because of the modified SMTP and POP3 port configurations that would
allow the virus shield to intercept virus infected emails before they would
be sent.

You're welcome.
When it comes to external MX, and A and NS records, you might want to
double check this subject just to be safe and avoid surprises.
Just make sure, that you do a backup of your fresh installation (files,
registry, etc.) in case something would go wrong. (to save yourself from
reinstalling everything.)

Some of my users are not getting their messages on time. And by
on time less than 15mn, being conservative. Sometimes it takes a
few hours, maybe 1 or 2 days!
the headers look fine but when I go check their mailbox folder, there
is nothing in there. In this instance, I can't check the logs because
the darn logging stopped for no apparent reason (that's another
story)
this is the header of a message sent on friday @13:35 and received
on monday morning, althought it says it arrived at our server
(rentokil.mis) @12:39pm (central time)
Why is this happening?

Mail headers and time stamps in particular can be a pain to decipher ... but
I see the folowing and re-calculate into GMT as shown:

16 May 2003 13:35:31 -0400 ... 17:35:31
i.e. ... clearly the clocks are not all accurate, but it looks like a 4 and
a half minute delay between the last 2 hops.
Of course - I might be adding the time the wrong way - but if my
interpretation is wrong then it is an amazing co-incidence that the minutes
are so close.

Wh is it like this ... because the programmer that wrote it was (is) a real
stickler for conformance to standards. Persuading him to do it "wrong" was
very hard and would have required a lot of evidence to justify it.
Can you get around it ... partly ... if you are lucky enough to have a
regular set of correspondents that show this problem (which is likely in
business-to-business mail) then you could look at setting up a custom domain
for the problem ones and point it directly to their mail server.

I have one Win 2000 machine that I need to use to run both Worldmail and
IIS. Several of the web sites product sample request pages with ASP code
which produce email messages for customer service people. However, the
messages hang up in the IIS SMTP service and are never sent. I had this
working at one time, but for the life of me I cannot remember how to get
these two working together. If someone could provide some direction as to
how to get the IIS sourced email (CDONTS) on its way, it would be greatly
appreciated.

I see from my archive that back in May 2002 (when similar question came up)
someone suggested http://persits.com for an ASPMail component.
It wasn't really a solution to the question as asked but seemed to be a good
alternative.
I have no idea how CDONTS ... but if you enable detailed SMTP tracing (via
ISOTRACE) do you see anything happen when it tries to submit?

Our company is going to change our name and domain name as well.
I need some suggestions on how we go about changing our mail
server to go through this transition.
Our Worldmail only has one local domain (domain1) with about 300
active users.
My idea was to
1- change all our email clients (OE) so the username is in the form of
username%domain1 so they can access their old domain1 account
when we implement step 2,
2-create a second local domain, domain2, and create aliases pointing
to domain1. As we need to create new users, we will do it in domain2.
3- When we feel confortable, in domain2, swap aliases w/real user
accounts to domain2 and delete old domain1.
Should I be thinking of a custom domain instead of a 2nd domain?
What else should I be considering?

We were going to instruct all the users to make the changes
themselves: username, and reply address. I'm not too concerned
about the server names because those are names and not IP #s,
because we have our own DNS server to control them.

Have a look in the API docs and see if there is a DefaultDomain setting (not
sure if it is exposed in your GUI).
If it is then ... when you have a 2nd domain you can set DefaultDomain to
the 1st domain ... then you shouldn't need to ask existing users to change
their setup.
New users would need a domain2 in their login ... but once you are happy ..
you could change default domain to domain2 and the users who had not yet
swapped would be switched automatically.
However, your users will have to edit their email address for outbound mail
(not sure if you have the feature that can append default domain if none
given ...)

As a follow up to this, I have to tell you that everything went well.
the steps that I followed were the following, finding just one problem: I created a single
file defining both domains (real accounts on new domain, and aliases on the old
domain) but it didn't work (I thought I could do it in one shot, wroooong!). At some point
in the import process, the server started duplicating mailboxes and I ran out of licenses.
We didn't want to buy anymore licenses for a software that is not being developed
anymore and since we're thinking on switching later on. That's why I did the following:
Created a 2nd domain (empty)
Exported current config (nibl.exe -e....)
Deleted everything from 1st domain
Imported new modified config and ta da!
Eveything is working fine - just don't forget to set your new domain as the default
domain, otherwise you have to change your client software login to
xxx%domainname.com (and when you have 400 users, it's a pain)

Yes I could do it at the begining since we will start with only 2
offices which will represent a small head count. But a month later we
will convert the rest of the users to the new name, like around 250+
users.
We were going to instruct all the users to make the changes
themselves: username, and reply address. I'm not too concerned

I have a question concerning the features of WorldMail.
In our business company we would like to share "stationery files". We would
like to have one machine on which we can manage, save and use "stationery
files". Every user in the network with his own e-mail client (Eudora) should
have the possibility to access those "stationery files" (which are saved on a
single machine for sharing) for sending e-mails on their own computers.
We have currently running Eudora 5.1 (Windows) in our company and I can't
find any feature in this version which could solve our problem. I was asking if
Eudora WorldMail would be the right solution for our company.

Using worldmail we want to restrict our users so that they can't check
mail between 11am and 4pm. In the access tab of the user profile there
is a space for custom access times but they are times to allow access
not times to restrict it and I can't find an option that allows you to
have 2 allowed times per day (i.e. 0001-1100 and 1600-0000) which would
give the needed result.
Are the settings for access restriction stored anywhere that they can be
manually set rather than using the GUI in the access tab of the user
profile?

Using worldmail we want to restrict our users so that they can't check
mail between 11am and 4pm. In the access tab of the user profile there
is a space for custom access times but they are times to allow access
not times to restrict it and I can't find an option that allows you to
have 2 allowed times per day (i.e. 0001-1100 and 1600-0000) which would
give the needed result.
Are the settings for access restriction stored anywhere that they can be
manually set rather than using the GUI in the access tab of the user
profile?

Yes, that's the first thing I tried (my logic works the same as yours
apparently).
However if you try that you get the message "Specified start time must
be less than the ending time"
It appears to be working now as I went into the
\localdomains\domain\names\testuser\allowedtimes value and reversed the
"ANY1100-1600" to "ANY1600-1100" and was denied access (local time is 1200).
Can anyone confirm that this isn't going to break anything and that the
values are only validated on entry to the Access tab because the
programmer didn't anticipate this kind of restriction?

I just noticed that our mail server logs SMTP and IMS are running about
5 hours behind time. The Win2K server local time is correct and it's in
the correct timezone according to the date and time dialog. Why would
Worldmail be using a time 5 hours less than the actual server time, and
where can I configure it?

From memory ... it write to the log files in GMT but the built-in log viewer
can translate the stored time to local time when viewing through its GUI.
(I could be wrong but that is how I remember it)

For some reason worldmail stopped delivering messages to the local domain
mailboxes. Sending and receiving outside the company hasn't been a
problem, even if I try sending a message to myself and cc to someone
outside. I can't find the messages that were never delivered.
I'm guessing is a DNS issue.
Our config is as follows
We have a DNS server @ x.x.200.19
config is as follows
206.205.242.132 IN NS res1.ns.algx.net.
192.5.6.34 IN NS ns1.dnsmanaged.com.
y.y.y.y IN MX 5 mail15.messagelabs.com.
z.z.z.z IN MX 20 mail16.messagelabs.com.
localhost IN A 127.0.0.1
rentokil IN A x.x.200.250
...
#smtp IN A 63.210.62.243
smtp IN CNAME rentokil
Messagelabs scans our mail (incoming/outgoing), they are a relay and it
was working fine in the past.
Worldmail runs on a NT machine

dns servers: x.x.200.19, 192.5.6.34, 206.205.242.132
Worldmail settings are:
routing: via smart relay host xxx.messagelabs.com
DNS: domain name server functions: prefer use of local name servers

I think that you might get some more info about what it is doing if you
enabled detailed tracing on SMTP (Isotrace) .
Maybe it has incorrectly decided that there is a local filter to be called
.. the messages are piling up there.
I don't think that it uses DNS is the recipient domain is the same as one of
the local domains.

Perhaps the command is not geting through to the mail server list engine.

Strange.
I don't think that the "add user" is an issue - I think that this is just
adding a user address/account to a local cache so that subsequent lookups
will be faster (if more mail comes to the same recipient).
The problem is at the "(destination mailbox address valid)"
Does this mailbox exist? Is there any sort of filter or other reason
visible why this account is not liked (e.g. is it disabled, does the
destination directory exist)
Check 'path\MailBoxs\user2 at initialplants dot com' to see if there is such a
thing - compare with delivery to a mailbox that works fine.

It is strange. Everything exists, the mailbox, user2, the folder, etc. There are no filter
that I know of.
Another piece of the puzzle we are working on is our relay server: Messagelabs. let's
take scenario 1: my smtp is Messagelabs
If I send a message to user1 at mydomain dot com, user1 won't get the message
(messagelabs is still looking into their logs for this)
If I send a message to paul at yourdomain dot com, you will get it, strange, hum?
scenario 2: our worldmail is our smtp which relays to MessageLabs for non local
messages
If I send a message to user1 at mydomain dot com, user1 WILL get the message (I can
see it in Isotrace)
If I send a message to paul at yourdomain dot com, you will get it
In any scenario, we receive all inbound messages, I can telnet to their smtp server.
I hope Messagelabs has the answer. Feel free to leave this thread alone; My initial
thoughts were that there was something to do with worldmail but I'll wait to hear from
MessageLabs. Personally, I don't think it's our server but I had to go to every single
corner in our system to troubleshoot it: I'm running out of corners!

Does Worldmail have message archiving ability (I can't remember).
If it is available then you can tell it to save the received mesage into a
file - then you could compare a working file with a non-working one ...

Hello everyone, hopefully I am posting this correctly, if not please
forgive me. Here's my question though: I constantly get partial messages on
our worldmail server which, when you look at them, have only part of a
message ID. They show as real messages in the user's mailbox, but when the
person tries to download their mail from the server it throws an error
stating it can't read the message, which I assume is from only having a
partial ID. Has anyone else seen anything like this, and if so how did you
fix it?
